Job Description

Lead Piping EngineerPosition is based in Qatar on a long‑term basis.OverviewWood is recruiting for a Lead Piping Engineer to join the project team. The candidate will contribute to the delivery of engineering excellence through:Definition and approval of technical scopes.Executing assigned scopes of work.Providing technical expertise to the business.Contributing to business growth.May manage and supervise teams and/or act as a technical specialist.ResponsibilitiesSupervises and participates in delivery of complex engineering tasks.Formulates and directs investigations, prototypes, models and system studies, evaluating and interpreting data and recommending practical applications.Contributes to successful project completion by resolving issues such as conflicting design requirements, unsuitable materials and complex coordination.Coordinates implementation of design engineering solutions.Reviews project‑related documentation to ensure accuracy.Supervises complex engineering tasks related to a portion of a major project.Works on complex procedures requiring diagnostic ability to assess situations and identify appropriate actions.Handles assignments covering broad and complex subject matter with unusual demands.Exercises mature business judgment in devising practical, economical solutions.Participates in incident investigations as required.Assesses work against standards, aims and specifications.Adheres to relevant discipline‑specific procedures and provides feedback for continuous improvement.Manages key stakeholders in the execution and delivery of contracted activities.Organises, actively participates and occasionally leads design reviews.Providing Technical ExpertiseProvides expert advice on design processes, construction methods and other technical areas.Advises on development of new engineering methods and participates in short‑ and long‑range planning.Solves problems requiring application of research data in allied disciplines, exercising mature judgment.Acts as Technical Authority when appointed.Evaluates options and selects technical solutions that optimise technical and financial success.Acts as technical custodian for low‑to‑medium value bids and proposals.Provides awareness of technical advancements and new ways to serve customer needs.Helps establish a culture of technical excellence through role modelling and communication of expectations.Undertakes technical bid evaluation for subcontracted scopes and may oversee vendors.Contributing to Business GrowthEngages in business development through relationship building and delivery to clients.Contributes to engineering bids and proposals.Manage and Supervise OthersMay supervise technical specialists or engineers responsible for complex tasks.Provides technical guidance and direction to teams of professional and non‑professional staff.Outlines requirements, assigns tasks and supervises progress to ensure targets and specifications are met.Provides coaching and mentoring for direct reports; monitors compliance with competence standards.Participates in recruitment, selection, transfers and promotion to support succession and business plans.Sponsors and supervises tasks delegated to direct reports or their teams.Manages and directs resources efficiently and effectively.In consultancy areas, may manage multiple small projects with responsibility for cost, risk, resource allocation and risk.Supervises delivery of subcontracted design engineering.Provides HSSE leadership and ensures compliance with site, office and design safety requirements.QualificationsBSc or university degree in Engineering.Minimum 15 years experience in Brown Field Oil and Gas mechanical piping design and engineering, with minimum 5 years construction and commissioning activities.Previous experience with Shell DEPs is a plus.Technically competent in own discipline, pursuing continuous professional development.Professional knowledge of relevant regulatory framework and legislation.Ability to supervise, manage, motivate and mentor technical professionals.Multidisciplinary knowledge, advanced principles and techniques of engineering and quality management standards.Recognised as a technical expert capable of developing and mentoring junior staff.Ability to execute and oversee project scope, budget and schedule.Consistently demonstrates creativity and innovation in finding solutions to complex client requirements.Effective communication and interpersonal skills for inter‑departmental and external interactions.Ability to diagnose and resolve significant and unusual problems and generate substantial improvements.Agile ability to adapt and troubleshoot solutions.Capacity to broadly interpret engineering principles, theories and concepts.Knowledge of Wood's business units, functions, sectors and services, with general understanding of other business offerings.BenefitsMeaningful and interesting projects delivered to industry leaders across oil, gas and emerging energy sectors.Commitment to Diversi
