Job Description

Job OverviewSenior Structural Engineer uses best practices and knowledge of internal or external issues to improve the Structural (Eng) discipline within McDermott. Acts as a resource for colleagues with less experience and shares conceptual and practical expertise related to the Structural (Eng) discipline. Solves complex problems and uses discipline‑specific knowledge to improve products or services. Impacts a range of customer, operational, project or service activities with the Structural (Eng) team and other related teams and ensures work is within the appropriate guidelines and policies.ResponsibilitiesPerform conceptual, FEED, studies, and detailed analyses and design as per design basis, project specifications, design codes, and standardsDirect engineering team as a Lead Engineer on small projectsApply knowledge and skills to a wide range of standard and nonstandard situationsPrepare clear and accurate detailed design calculations and analyses including design reports and proceduresManage own time to meet agreed deadlines and budgets and develop plans for short‑term work activities in own areaClearly communicate and explain complex issues and work to establish understandingTrain/mentor EngineersAssist MOPEX offices on projectsHave a good understanding of the other engineering departmentsInitiate interface with other disciplines to obtain input for discipline designsProvide engineering support as requiredPerform engineering checks of draftingPerform engineering checks prepared by others within the disciplinePerform design verification through single‑discipline check and assist with inter‑discipline checks (IDC)Prepare MTOs of structuresPrepare specificationsPrepare subcontract documentsReview vendor dataPrepare technical bid evaluationsCheck designs for operational requirements, constructability, and maintainabilityTasks as Engineering SpecialistPerform independent computer analyses of structuresPrepare details and layouts of structuresPrepare structural analyses and reports on calculations or perform specialist tasks (e.g. architectural designs, underground piping designs, complex structures, topsides, jackets, weight control reports, center of gravity reports)Specialized in several fields (geotechnical, steel, concrete, dynamic calculations, FEM, fatigue calculations, earthquake, jackets, FPSOs, blast, hydrodynamics, architectural, etc.)Specialized in some design codes (EC, ACI/AISC/API, GOST, etc.)Prepare project engineering guidesCoordinate and check the work of engineers and designersTasks as Lead EngineerWork as Lead Engineer on small projects or act as area lead or deputy leadResponsible for all engineering and design work on small‑size projectsControl and manage work hours, materials, progressWork in close liaison with the Design Coordinator, area leads, etc.Coordinate with project managementAssist Project Manager in:Preparing deliverable controlPreparing schedulePreparing progress reportsPreparing man‑hour and capital expenditure estimatesFill engineering workGive relevant feedback to the departmentReports to: Project Lead Engineer/Project Engineer Manager; Functional: Supervising Department Manager; Liaises with: All Engineering disciplines, Construction site/Fabrication Group, Safety Dept, Document Control, Procurement Group, Subcontractors and Vendors, and Customers; Supervises: Engineers and Designers.QualificationsBachelor’s Degree or Master’s Degree in Engineering8‑15 years of experience in oil and gas with a major contractor or consultant predominantly performing detail designPreferably Registered Professional Engineer or member of professional engineering society as applicableSeasoned knowledge of engineering standards and specificationsGood knowledge of engineering softwareAble to work independentlyGood working knowledge of English, both oral and writtenHSE, TQM, and cost‑consciousGood technical structural knowledgeGood organizer, motivator, and supervisorKeen on improving the effectiveness of the workShow flexibility and ensure proper hand‑over with regards to:Reassignment to other departments/construction sites/fabrication yardsReplacement of colleagues during illness and holidaysProvision of assistance to other colleagues with heavy workloads (also other projects) when possible/desirableManaging/learning of current working methods and software applicationsStrong working knowledge of many design techniques and analysis methods, and detailed knowledge of the content and application of standards codes and guidelines as applicableAbout UsOur ingenuity fuels daily life.
