Job Description

The responsibilities of faculty members shall be an appropriate combination of:a) Dissemination of knowledge through undergraduate and / or graduate teaching; andb) Research, scholarly or other creative activities; andc) University, community, and professional servicesTeachingTeach at undergraduate and graduate level in subject areas and on time schedules allocated by the Chair of DepartmentPrepare teaching material including course outline, syllabus and lesson plans. Revise the subject matter on a regular basis as appropriate for that subjectContribute to the development, planning and implementation of a high quality curriculumProvide students with detailed syllabus, methods of instruction and evaluation in their coursesEngage in the selection of textbooks and other teaching aids necessary to the instruction of coursesMonitor students’ performance in their subject areas and provide remedial classes when necessarySet and mark exams, coursework, assignments, laboratory work, homework, and any other relevant activityUse up-to-date instructional technology and ensure the delivery is clear and consistentSupervise students’ research and practical work and of their theses preparation, as well as participate in evaluation of their thesesParticipate in professional peer reviewsSupervise teaching internshipsDevelop and improve their scholarly competence and effectiveness as teachers within their area of expertiseResearch, Scholarly and Creative ActivitiesCarry out research and produce publications, or other research outputs, in line with personal objectives agreed in the review processEngage in scholarly or creative activities in their area of expertise and makes results available for critical peer reviewDeliver papers at professional association meetings, seminars and conferencesParticipate in panels at regional and international meetings of professional organizationsIdentify and successfully bid for external funding and grantsActively raise the Department and Faculty’s profile, internally and externallyParticipate in departmental and faculty seminars aimed at sharing research outcomes and building interdisciplinary collaboration within and outside the departmentCollaborate with colleagues, both within and outside the University, in conducting and managing research and consultancy activitiesAcademic ServicePlay an active role in departmental, or University-wide working groups or committees as requestedContribute to student recruitment, retention and placement effortsFoster service by contributing to the community at large in participatory, developmental or advisory capacitySupport and participate in student organization activitiesAdhere to the University's information security and confidentiality policies and procedures, and report breaches or other security risks accordinglyCoordinate with other departments to facilitate the accomplishment of tasks and responsibilities, as and when neededContribute to the academic community through peer review, editorial roles, and professional organizations.Engage in outreach, collaboration, and public engagement activities.Demonstrate a strong commitment and practice to maintaining a safe and healthy work environmentPerform any other tasks assigned by the Line ManagerQualifications & ExperiencePhD or equivalent terminal degree, in Environmental Epidemiology, Epidemiology, Public Health or closely related discipline from an accredited institution.Candidates with interdisciplinary training integrating environmental exposures, population health and quantitative epidemiology are strongly preferred.Required ExperienceA minimum of 8 years of academic or research experience relevant to environmental health, out of which at least 5 years should be at the level of Assistant Professor or equivalent research leadership role.Applicants should demonstrate:A strong record of peer-reviewed publications in high-impact journals in environmental epidemiology, environmental health or population healthDemonstrated expertise in environmental exposure assessment including but not limited to:Climate change and healthBuilt environment and urban healthChemical and occupational exposuresEnvironmental determinants of chronic and infectious diseasesExperience in conducting population-based epidemiological studies, including cohort, cross-sectional or case-control designsStrong proficiency in advanced statistical and epidemiological methods including:Longitudinal data analysisTime-series analysisCausal inference methodsDemonstrated ability to secure competitive external research funding from national or international agenciesExperience supervising graduate students (MPH and/or PhD) and mentoring early-career researchers.Experience leading or collaborating on multidisciplinary research projects involving environmental science, climate science, epidemiology or public healthExperience working with large datasets, environmental monitoring data, GIS platforms or remote sensing data is highly desirableExperience
